Elisabeth de Brabant Contemporary
(eng) Born in 1990 in Paris, Léa Dumayet lives and works between Paris and Milan. She graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2014 with honours, following an exchange at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro.
Her practice is primarily sculptural and begins with an intuitive and empirical investigation of materials. Dumayet works with elements drawn from nature as well as metal structures, studying their physical limits, points of resistance, and potential states of transformation. Through this process, she develops sculptures and installations that exist in conditions of tension, suspension, and precarious balance.
Her work consistently explores opposing forces: fragility and strength, lightness and weight, attraction and risk. Structures appear stable yet remain vulnerable, inviting the viewer to sense the latent forces that hold them together. The spectator becomes a witness to these tensions, encountering sculpture as a field of physical and perceptual equilibrium.
Dumayet has presented her work in France and internationally, including exhibitions in Aegina, New York, London, Milan, Como, and Lisbon.

Sa pratique est essentiellement sculpturale et procède d’abord d’une recherche instinctive et empirique sur les caractéristiques des matériaux, particulièrement d’éléments de la nature et du métal, dont elle étudie les potentialités et les points de rupture. Ses sculptures et installations sont souvent en équilibre. Léa Dumayet invite le spectateur à en éprouver les tensions. Le travail de Léa Dumayet oscille constamment entre des notions contradictoires : fragilité et force, légèreté et pesanteur, équilibre et vertige, réalité et rêve, attraction et risque… Au spectateur – acteur à en découvrir le sens caché.
