Christian de Laubadère was born in Gascony in 1945. He graduated from École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and taught at the Ecole des Arts of Bayonne.
In 2001, he moved his artist studio to Shanghai, China and remained there for the next 17 years. He returned to the southwest of France in 2019. The artist lives and works in Hossegor, France. The artist has always been fascinated by the nuances of femininity, he has devoted a large part of his work to exploring an inner intimate world, notably through his famous series which focus on the form of the nape of the female neck.
These works were created with is famous “noir de fumée” technique which he created, and employing various mediums and incorporating collages of ancient fabrics and precious silks collected in Asia into his drawings.
