Christian de Laubadère was born in Gascony in 1945. He graduated from École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and taught at the Ecole des Arts of Bayonne.
In 2001, he moved his artist studio to Shanghai, China and remained there for the next 17 years. He returned to the southwest of France in 2019. The artist lives and works in Hossegor, France. The artist has always been fascinated by the nuances of femininity, he has devoted a large part of his work to exploring an inner intimate world, notably through his famous series which focus on the form of the nape of the female neck.
These works were created using his signature ‘noir de fumée’ technique which he created. He works with various mediums and incorporates a collage of ancient fabrics and precious silks collected in Asia into his paintings.
Christian de Laubadère ‘s solo show, Il Corridoio Curioso del Tempo is currently on view at Elisabeth de Brabant Contemporary in Venice from September 2024 through March 2025. The exhibition was created specifically for the space illustrates the immersive quality of the artist and his world.
