Elisabeth de Brabant is a contemporary art curator and consultant with over 20 years of experience of curating art programs and exhibitions in coordination with an international network of museums and collectors and unmatched expertise in Contemporary Asian Art.
Recognised for her cultural contributions, Elisabeth was honoured with the Medal for Cultural Distinction by Queen Elisabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. She also received honorary awards from the Shanghai Cultural Bureau in 2012 and 2013.
Born in New York City, Elisabeth’s interest in art has its roots in a family that has been in Asia since 1908 and who have historically been major collectors and museum benefactors of contemporary art. She earned a BA in Art History and Comparative Literature from Columbia University and went on to complete a combined Master of Fine Arts from Central St. Martins in London and Parsons School of Design in New York.
Having moved to Shanghai in 2004, Elisabeth created and curated some of the most unique and dynamic art spaces during the formative years of the Chinese contemporary art scene. She directed Artscene, a leading gallery in China at the time, with spaces in Shanghai’s French Concession, M50 Art Warehouse and Beijing’s 798 Art District. In 2008, she established her own space, the Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center in the French Concession, fostering deeper artistic dialogues through more active programming and hosting impactful exhibitions through a cross cultural East – West platform that she championed.
Her art spaces in Shanghai include the EdB Art Pavillion in the Historic 1933 Space during the China World Expo in 2008, as well as the Art Connoisseur’s Suite in 2012-2014. In 2011, CCTV and Citybeat began a 6 segment television series featuring Elisabeth in discussions with her artists inspired by her cross cultural dialogue platform in her art centre.
Curator focusing on live and transmedia art, based in Paris.
