EdB Contemporary is launching a series of interviews spotlighting women leaders in the art world, exploring their values, goals, methods, and dreams.
Our first interview features Rachel Moore, who has directed The Current in Stowe, Vermont, for the past eight years. Formerly the Helen Day Art Center, The Current has become a dynamic hub under Rachel’s leadership, offering year-round visual arts exhibitions, the “Exposed” outdoor sculpture show, public programs, and innovative arts education. It has showcased prominent artists and prioritized community engagement.
Rachel’s career began in 2010 as an Independent Curator, followed by roles as Assistant Director & Executive Curator at The Current before her current position. Previously, she led Spoke, an exhibition space in Chicago, and her curatorial work has been exhibited internationally.
Chakaia Booker’s solo exhibition, “Taking Time”, curated by Moore, reflects her commitment to social justice, sustainability, community, civil responsibility, and women’s empowerment. Notably, one of Booker’s sculptures is featured in The Current’s outdoor park.
This conversation initiates EdB Contemporary’s series on inspiring women leaders in the art world, providing insights into their values, goals, methods, and dreams.
Rachel Moore discusses the challenges in art education and how The Current supports local and regional schools through outreach and on-site programs. The Current facilitates visits for school groups and fosters connections with the diverse community through artist residencies. For example, Chakaia Booker and Justin Sanz recently led a week-long children’s printmaking workshop at The Current.
